The Indianapolis Chapter of NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners) held their Eighth Annual Awards Luncheon in December 2011. It’s theme was Celebrating Women – Our Legacy and was held at the JW Marriot. With the attendance of about 1,000 and 48 exhibit booths, all were thrilled to hear Governor Mitchell E. Daniels, Mayor Greg Ballard and Lt. Governor Becky Skillman speak about how much Women Owned Businesses are supported by the city of Indianapolis as well as the State of Indiana.

With Janet South, President of DECO Group Inc and Melissa Brown, President of Relocation Strategies Inc chairing the event, months of planning all paid off. The Keynote speaker was multi Olympic medal achiever, Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Ms. Joyner-Kersee has earned three gold, one silver and two bronze Olympic medals in four different events and was voted the Greatest Female Athlete of the 20th Century by Sports Illustrated for Women. Attendees were inspired as they listened to her speak about her experiences and her nonprofit organization, the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation. The line up of presenters that awarded the NAWBO recipients included, Allison Melangton, President and CEO of the Super Bowl 2012 Host Committee, Kalen Irsay, Vice President of the Indianapolis Colts, Lin Dunn, Head Coach for the Indiana Fever, and Sarah Fisher, Owner and CEO of Sarah fisher Racing.

The NAWBO women are an amazing network of individuals comprised of 241 members and 63 Corporate Partners. The Indianapolis Chapter was established in 1997 and is the third largest NAWBO chapter in the United States. NAWBO impacts, influences and propels Indiana to be a leading state for women owned businesses through its advocacy efforts; economic impact; diversity; influence; membership size and power.

Commercial real estate is a tough business, especially amid a recession. But that didn’t keep Summit Realty Group, a member of the Cushman Wakefield Alliance from buying and renovating a historic building and moving 47 employees. The firm moved from a tower to 12,960 SF on the top two floors of a 1909 structure.

Working every day in the real estate industry, Summit’s brokers understand the importance of smooth and efficient moves. The principals called on the expertise of RSI for help. We provided comprehensive move management for this project, including budgeting, furniture inventory, vendor coordination, move bids and sequencing, coded floor plans, hanging signs, furniture labeling and move.

As we do for all clients, we helped Summit maximize its furniture budget while ensuring the best aesthetic results. We provided data that helped Summit make decisions on whether to reuse, buy new or buy pre-owned workstations. When the Summit decided to buy new, we wrote the RFP, orchestrated showroom tours and oversaw the smooth installation for 45 workstations. We also found a buyer for some of the old workstations and donated the remainder to charities. This was important not only from a cost-savings perspective, but to fulfill requirements for diverting unused furnishings from a landfill because Summit is pursuing LEED certification for the building.

The move occurred over a weekend, which isn’t unusual; however, what was a bit unusual was the historic building’s lack of a loading dock and small elevator cabs. Those two facts required an additional level of delivery and furniture coordination during the move.

“Many of our brokers have recommended Relocation Strategies, Inc. to clients making office moves, so they seemed a natural fit when we needed help. They understand the importance of tactical, high-performance teams. They do a great job.”

Bill Ehret, SIOR, CEO and co-founder of Summit Realty Group
